Resolutions - Goal Vs. Intention
Page one of a new blank book. January is such a great month to refocus on what you want to a accomplish in a new year. What book do you want to write for yourself this year? New year resolutions have received a bad rep in the past and not everyone is a fan but I still believe in setting goals and intentions. There is nothing wrong with challenging yourself to try new things, have a healthier lifestyle or to do something you have been keen on finally accomplishing. If you're interested in setting any goals for the year 2016 I recommend setting S. M. A. R. T goals. S. M. A. R. T goals allow you to continually evaluate and determine if you are actually accomplishing your set goals.
S. M. A. R. T. Goals
S. Specific: specific goals create obtainable goals. Breakdown your main goal into 2-3 smaller ones that help build towards achieving your main goal.
M. Measurable: measurable goals help you as an individual know when you have accomplished that particular goal - set a date, an amount, a time.
A. Attainable: attainable goals allow you to accomplish your goals. You know yourself and you know what you're capable of. Similar to teaching children you need to aim for the sweet spot - not too boring - not too challenging but something right in between that is going to stretch you out of your comfort zone, and challenge you.
R. Realistic: realistic goals are important to you and something you are willing and able to work towards. Don't jump on that "loose 30 pounds" band wagon set goals that are realistic to what you truly want to accomplish or explore this year. This sometimes requires a little bit of soul searching.
T. Timely: A timely goal should have a time frame. A time frame is what can motivate us and give us a nudge to move forward it also helps us know if we have accomplished said goal.
If you are not interested in setting goals a specific intention(s) may be of interest! Intentions are our present heartfelt aspiration(s) that guide our daily actions. Having an intention(s) for the year 2016 may guide you to all the same results as setting goals just in different and more flexible ways depending on what you intend.
This year I want to focus on specific intentions with a few financial and race SMART goals sprinkled in between. A happy balance! I challenge you to think about what your intentions or goals will be this year and wish you all the success in accomplishing them!
