When you are trying your darndest to create a Zero Waste home but have small children that eat copious amounts of cheese... things get expensive. We thought we would try and make our own cheese because... why not!? Papa Sas found a great recipe at The Kitchn. Her post spoke to us, coaching us to get through all our constant fears that we should abort since we didn't know what we were doing. To be honest, it was super easy to make, just a lot of steps. If you became a regular cheese maker these steps would all become second nature - easy peazy! The type of cheese that you create is a delicious bocconcini salad type of mozzarella not a pizza melting type of mozzarella. It only requires a few ingredients and nothing too scary. We found citric acid at the Safeway Pharmacy and the rennet at Community Foods in the dairy fridges, although I don't think it needs to be refrigerated. Step out of your cooking comfort zone and make some delicious cheese!
